Wabeno Steam up Days July 11,12,13th

22nd Annual antique tractor show.  Featuring gas engines, 1909 Phoenix Log Hauler, steam powered sawmill, working blacksmiths and many other working demonstrations.  Tug of war, horseshoe tourney, Lena area Modified garden tractor pullers, large flea market and a large parade.  All three nights feature live bands.  I'll be setting up my circus tent and helping to set up the show.  Dad and I will be entering our Scouts and an IH tractor.  My Grandfather will be with us all weekend.  Should be a fun time.  Admission is only $4.00.  All monies raised goes to local charities/organizations.  Located on Wabeno firefighters grounds (downtown).

Lots to do on the Scout yet, should be another fun roadtrip.

Had a great time up in Wabeno at the tractor show.  Glad we had the circus tent as it rained and was very hot a couple days.  Our tug of war team sponsored by Harris Logging took 3rd place.  Including a side bet, we won $150 which we used to restimulate the local tavern's economy.  Grandpa had fun talking history to the locals (Our family had a cabin outside Wabeno from post war 1946 to 1970).  Grandpa hadn't been to town in more than 30 years.  Grandpa did bring along a black and white photograph of my father Roger Kussmann and his little brother Gordan standing in the cabin of the caboose of the famed Phoenix loghauler.  The picture is 61 years old.  We recreated the picture with Grandpa and Dad.  Second picture we took included me, showing three generations.

The '65 Scout had a few snafu's to add to the adventure.  Left Greenville at 1:3o pm Thursday.  Made it just north of Black Creek when the fuel pump ceased operation.  Fully packed truck with 2 dogs, girlfriend, camping gear, tools, tents etc.  I ran into town, was directed by Hank to Wizard Auto Body on the southside of town where I was able to order a fuel pump and have it delivered to me.  Parts store gal drove me to the truck.  12 minutes of laying in the gravel with semi's whizzing past and I was back on the road.  Made it to Bonduel where I had a long layover.  New fuel pump (apparently high pressure) blew out all carb gaskets.  I broke down right in town at the only set of stoplights.  Pushing the Scout through the intersection was easy as I was starting my tug of war rope pulling training (see above).  It was hard to push, and steer, while Illinois couple in Cadillac were blaring their horn as my presence slowed their progress for 25 seconds.  I was able to settle my girlfriend, who I thought was starting to become annoyed.  I crawled to the GMC dealer which has stood there since the invention of the horseless carriage.  Ironically met a fellow named Hank who allowed me access to their 50+ year old gasket collection.  None fit, but the had a selection of gasket paper.  They sold me two full sheets and some permatex.  Crawling back to the truck, formulating a plan.  Started with float bowl gasket, ended up replacing every gasket in the mighty 1 barrel carb as I took apart and reassembled carb 6 times.  No further problems as I drove the rest of the way with no incident.  Arrived in Wabeno at 7:00 PM.   The ride home in the Scout was uneventful and boring, no breakdowns, not even a hiccup.

What did you folks do this weekend?

For me it was a plan to put new bumper on the Bronco but the mounts were to short so it turned into putting new front door in the house  which meant reframing the door opening and new siding,on the plus side Wife happy meter went way up, now I can get more truck toy's without her trying to shoot me when they show up!!

High pressure fuel pump in a Scout?  Isn't that an oxymoron?

I thought you had the red outboard gas can with the squeeze bulb.

We went racing naturally.  I actually rode the furthest distance in a vehicle with out driving that I have since my parents drove me around.  I didnt drive from Friday night until Monday morning.  Well, except for the moped in the pits.  That is for another post and requires pictures to appreciate.

Yeah, me on a moped.  It either deserves a full write up or complete blocking of the grotesque image all together.   Picture me at a svelte 347lbs cruising along on a Honda Elite.  I hit some bumps and was concerned that I was going to have to have the scooter surgically removed from well, nevermind.  Like I said, another post...
